Use of Google Syntaxes for quick and accurate results

ImageUsing proper Google Syntax can save your time and provide you with much more efficient and accurate results than just typing out randomly on google or any other search engine can. To know these few useful tips can help to make your search experience(on google) a lot easier and stress-free.

1. How would you search for an exact word or phrase?

Instead to just typing the word or phrase in google search, enclose the word/phrase in quotation marks. For example: “Blue rose” or “Canadian Federal Elections 2011”.

2. How would you search for something on a specific site?

In order to search your content on a specific website, simply, precede your search with [site:], for example: “Blue rose”, site: www.blueroseflorist.com , and this will provide you with all the results specific to that website.

3. How would you correctly search for a definition?

If you are looking for direct definition of something, without going through different dictionary website etc, just write define before the word you are looking for. For example, define: Macbook or [define Macbook].

4. How would you search for a specific product available within a specific price range?

To search for a specific product available within a specific price range, use a few dots to create space between the two prices of your price range, after the product name. For example, [fish aquarium $200..$600].

5. How would you search for a specific filetype?

If you are looking for a document on google with specific filetype, use [filetype:] describing what type of file you want such as [filetype:ppt] or [filetype:pdf]. Search query can be typed before or after the filetype but make sure, there is no space between filetype and the type of file mentioned. For example, [Canadian wildlife Federation filetype:pdf] or [filetype:ppt Canadian wildlife Federation].

6. How would you include or ignore words in your search?

To include the word in your search, put quotation marks around the word you want to include in your search, but if you want to ignore any word in your search,simply use [-] sign before the word you wish to exclude, for example: [summer fruits-tomatoes]. 

7. How would you find related pages?

In order to find the related pages, just type in [related:] followed by URL of the website without any space. For example: [related:www.facebook.com]

8. How would you find a topic, searching all available synonyms of a word?

To find a topic, searching all available synonyms of a word, use [~] sign before the topic/word you are looking for, for example, [~tulips] or ~Marathon.

9. How would you find the time in another country?

This can be done by typing [time] before the name of the country with space between the two words such as [time China].

10. How would you find out how many Egyptian pounds you get for $20 Canadian dollars?

Just type in what currency you have and in which currency you would like to convert that money, for example, [20 Canadian to Egyptian pound] or “20 Canadian dollars in Egyptian Pounds”.
